Jorge Suarez Kilzi

I was born in Venezuela to a Spanish father and Syrian mother and I sign my pieces with my mother’s surname, Kilzi, as a tribute to her and to our roots.

Architect by the Polytechnical School of Catalonia, Master at Lausanne’s EPFL and did an exchange at Seoul’s HanYang University.

Worked in Japan and Spain before becoming a freelance Architect and 3D artist, all while giving form to what in 2022 would be this design practice.

Jorge Suárez Kilzi | artist and furniture designer

My designs are the testimony of a life marked by the movement of the continuous migration between cultures through Latin America, Southern Europe, Syria and the artistic discipline of Japan gained from my experience in the architecture offices of SANAA (Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa) and Junya Ishigami, where I was inspired also by the delicate balance between fluidity and structure.

The Tangible & the Intangible

As we understand it, there is a duality in every memorable object. There is a physical reality and an non-physicial reality. We intend to expand the expression of our pieces beyond their materiality, bestowing them with meaning and emotion. In that sense, light is a secondary state of the material that speaks of that non-material reality.

Nature As An Alwats Changing Force

The one rule of nature is change. Change equals life and permanence contradicts life. In our design practice we see our objects as snapshots of a changing living thing. The same way animist cultures see it, we want to convey character and a soul to our pieces and for them to pay company to our clients, as that quiet friend that doesn’t need to say or do much to let you know he’s there.

Hand Made In Spain

We feel pride in our collaboration with skilled craftsmen and craftswomen in proximity to Barcelona. The intricate details of these pieces and the human touch that make each and every object we build unique, are in the very core of what a “Kilzi” item means.
